Watermelon (suika - すいか)

Watermelon is a very popular summer fruit. Japanese often add some salt to enhance it's sweetness.

Some farmers grow watermelons in transparent shapes to produce square fruits. They claim it takes far less space in the fridge. Other shapes are also produced like hearts, triangles, faces, etc.

A traditional Japanese summer game is called suikawari. The aim of the game is to try to smash a watermelon while being blind folded
