Naruto whirlpools (naruto no uzushio - 鳴門の渦潮)
The Naruto whirlpools can be seen in the Naruto Strait, a channel between Naruto in Tokushima and Awaji Island in Hyōgoin. The phenomenon is due to the interaction between the tide of the Pacific Ocean and the inland sea of Seto. Tourists view the whirlpools from cruise boats or from the Ōnaruto bridge on the route connecting Kobe (Honshu main land) with Naruto (Shikoku island).
