About "yabane" (yabane - 矢羽) :

Yabane is an 'arrow fletching' pattern. Yabane design can be found on a lot of objects, especially on cloth.

On New Year, decorative arrows with white tails 'hamaya' are sold in shinto shrines as a good-luck charm. The arrows of the previous year are brought back to the shrine to be burnt.
