Kompeitō sweet (kompeitō - 金平糖, 金米糖, or 金餅糖)

Kompeitō are traditional sugar sweets which were introduced to Japan by the Portuguese around the 16th century. The kompeitō word comes from the Portuguese term 'confeito' which means sugar candy.
