About "chestnut" (kuri - 栗) :

Japanese chestnuts can be larger than western ones even if some small varieties are sold roasted. They are an Autumn delicacy and are often used to replace the more common sweet bean paste in many traditional cakes. They can also be added to rice ('kuri gohan') or salted dishes.
