About "chidori bird" (chidori - 千鳥) :

Chidori is a traditional motif showing some stylized plover birds flying above waves. It can be found on many items like kimonos, fabrics, pottery, paper wrappings, etc.

The stylized bird can also be represented alone, for instance as a little cake or a hashioki. The chidori bird is also the symbol of Pontocho, a traditional Kyoto area, as it recalls the plovers flying over the local river.
